What children are available for adoption?

The children available for adoption are older children ages 7-17 and sibling groups. These are children who have been removed from their parents care due to abuse or neglect. Many of these children are minorities or have special needs.*

* "Special needs" refers to children that have a developmental, medical, physical, behavioral, or emotional diagnosis.  This term also refers to school-aged children, children who are part of a sibling group, or children of minority heritage and over the age of two.

Are there services available after the adoption is finalized?

Yes, post adoption services are available to families until an adopted child turns 18 years of age.  Families are encouraged to begin using them as soon as they are eligible.  Services include individual, family, and group therapy, as well as case management services.  In addition, there are a host of parent support groups available.  The goal is to make sure that families have the necessary resources to make this transition as smooth and as seamless as possible.  In addition, children adopted through the State have access to the state college system at no charge.
